The Day That Everything Changed

Rex defeats and cures a giant E.V.O. rampaging through a city, turning it back into a normal (albeit naked) man. Criticized by White Knight over his recklessness and frustrated by a lack of freedom, Rex breaks out of Providence with Bobo and goes on a road trip. In a city, he meets a group of young men playing basketball, joins them for a game, and uses his powers to get a vending machine to spit out free soda. A blond youth named Noah suggest that the other boys are just mooching; after Rex tells them that he won't give them any more freebies, they call him a freak and leave. Noah stays and quickly befriends Rex.

When Agent Six comes to retrieve him, the Pack (three E.V.O.s named Skalamander, Biowulf and Breach) appears and attempts to kidnap Rex. During the melee he, Noah, and Bobo are thrown through a portal into Abysus. There, they are met by Van Kleiss, who introduces himself, demonstrates his powers, and invites them to his stronghold, a ruined hilltop castle where the original nanite-release event took place. Van Kleiss tries to win Rex's trust by hinting that he has knowledge of Rex's past, but after separating him from his friends he turns on him and attempts to drain him of nanites. Meanwhile, Noah and Bobo manage to get away from the Pack long enough to distract Van Kleiss, which allows Rex to temporarily gain the upper hand, and the three escape by air with Van Kleiss in pursuit. Agent Six meets them with a Providence task force, but it is finally up to Rex to defeat Van Kleiss, by manifesting a sword and slicing him in half (though his body regenerates itself from the soil of Abysus afterward.) Upon returning to Providence HQ, Rex gets a new room and more freedom. Meanwhile, Noah is shown reporting to White Knight, revealing that he had been hired by Providence to monitor and influence Rex.
